The most difficult part for the still photography is to select an object. Once the object is selected, what matters most is the lighting, composition and contrast to click your image or say your imagination. The unique feature of still photography is that unlike the landscapes, it controls light and unlike pictures, this never turns out to be a boring element for you.

Prepare for the elements

Winter has shorter days and the weather can be biting cold and bleak, especially for photography. However, taking into consider and preparing yourself against how the weather would behave can solve half your problem. You need to be prepared for any eventuality as being caught in a blizzard, so be prepared and pack your equipments accordingly before you venture out to capture those amazing scenario. On a more positive note, there is nothing like the low angle of the light which suits any subject, such as the bare vegetation which makes for great exposure of views. These views are otherwise not visible during the rest of the year. You can even get a sensational shot of a lone, bare tree covered in snow and reflecting the light back from all angles.

Getting the exposure right

Your camera light metering system will read only the amount of light which is reflected off a particular subject. This will mean that you will get fewer colors and shades in a scene as the camera will have a problem giving the right exposure. You will need to combat such underexposures of snow scenes by overexposing your picture to get the right lighting effect. If you are using an SLR camera you need to test a couple of different settings to get the right result. You can add an incident light reading and add more exposure to the actual light reading of the camera. If you are using a compact camera, then you need to look for specific settings, which will automatically register to the camera that it needs more overexposure.

Packing the right equipment

While going out for winter photography you need to take extreme care of your camera and its lenses in an insulated camera case. This is necessary as even the best camera will not be able to withstand the freezing conditions. Keep your camera as dry as possible as snow is basically water which can dampen your camera. The other important thing is the extra battery which you will need to carry with you. The cold can make the camera battery run out before time. Therefore, always keep a spare battery snugly inside your coat pocket and likewise, you can keep the old battery in the same pocket if you need to switch batteries. Sometimes, the heat generated from your body may just about revive the dead battery.

Know which time of the day is best

Knowing which time of the day is best for a particular shot will enable you to work during those times. As in any photography, good lighting is always the key for outdoor photos, which could best be early morning or late afternoon. Keeping the sun at the right angle is important for morning shoots and for afternoon shoots, the sun should be directly behind you. To get your best shoot out of frost and crystals you need to get there very early in the morning before they melt away.

Check your white balance

Digital cameras can be deceived and confused by snow, producing a sickly blue picture rather than the actual shade and color hoped for. You can fix this manually by setting the camera’s white balance with a sheet of white paper before shooting. If you are not keen on carrying white stationary around, then you can set the white balance in the tungsten setting of your camera. If your camera allows RAW mode you need not have any worry as you can balance out on your PC later.

By keeping some of these tips in mind, you can set out to enjoy your winter photography and perhaps get the best pictures ever shot

A logo is more than just a graphic design. A good company logo will increase your brand recognition. If people do not remember or find the logo not up to the mark then they won’t bother. It plays an aesthetic pleasure card. Here are a few pointers to keep in mind while designing a logo.

1. If you design a logo which is oversized but deprived of suitable content then it will make a negative impression on the organizations clients. They will find it to be distracting and irritating. You will not want the client to remember your company logo as boring. You might lose out on potential business opportunities.



2. The real purpose of the logo isn’t to occupy space on the presentation slide or the banner. If designed properly it will be the company’s representation. It should be able to send out the message; it should be effective and meaningful as well. You can achieve your target audience even by creating a smaller logo if it has the capability to deliver the company message.



3. Often a lot of designers maintain the simplicity of the logo by keeping the design layout minimal and simple. This leads to a lot of empty or blank area. The client doesn’t realize the essence of the work and might consider the design to be incomplete. They would want the designer to fill up that empty space. In reality it is not empty but is known as the negative space. By involving lesser design elements you can actually explore the creativity of the design. The empty space offers more meaning than crowding it with unnecessary art.



4. The main focus should be on the content of the logo and the message that it delivers to the other party. Often clients hammer the designers to make oversize logos. However, this does not improve the actual content of the logo. Implementing a proper message and a rich content will capture the viewer’s attention instead.

These are few reasons why the size of the logo should not matter. Bigger size doesn’t promise better logo content. However, too small a logo may damage the details of design. If you try scaling down on the size then details like letters and images may not be clear. Besides it will get more difficult in implementing the design. The designer should make the layout such that it strikes a balance between size and content.
