About yourself:

My name is Atakan Seçkin, I was born in Istanbul, 23rd March 1993. I still live in Istanbul with my family. I’m a student in Kadikoy Anatolian High School (can’t really say I’m good at it) and I’m the lead guitarist of bands called Cold Shot and Kids of the Century. I also play drums and bass. I’ve been working as freelance designer for almost 3 years, and I should say that I really love what I do. I love how my clients are satisfied after working on a project, and It’s great meeting new people from all over the world. Designing is not a job for me –yet-, I’m still trying to improve myself, specializing in brand identities.

Your Achievements:
I’m a “Top Worker” on a freelance job board called vWorker.com. Which requires;
Experience (minimum of 3 projects and the site and 5,000 points in the All-Worker-Competition)
Excellent customer satisfaction ( average rating of at leats 9)
Every job completed successfully (no rating below 4)
I have 9.89 worker rating on 64 projects (vWorker.com)
I’ve won 20 logo design contests on 99designs.com.
I’ve been invited to share my work for a graphic design book in China (by Sendpoints Publishing)

About your Experience with design:
It all started with designing the logo for a website that I’ve created with a friend. After designing that logo, I looked at it and said “actually, I’m pretty good at this!” so I got into designing more and more each day. I’ve worked about 150 clients in 3 years, and all of them are satisfied with the work I’ve done.

Do you have a particular process you go through for each design?
I don’t have a particular process, but I spend a lot time thinking before I do anything about a project.

How would you describe your style?
I’m one of the guys that say “less is more”, simplicity is the key of my design style.

How did you get your first job in design and what exactly was it?
3 years ago, I was bidding on every design project I see on vWorker.com, but no one wanted to work with me for a long time because I didn’t have any feedback. So I started preparing design mock-ups and sending them with my bid. In short time, I’ve been awarded with my first project. It was for an e-commerce site called Quematica, of course the design was pretty bad. But it’s the first money I’ve made by designing, 10 bucks!

What plans do you have for the future?
I’m planning to study graphic design or architecture in college, and make “designing” my “job”.

Your expert areas:
I specialize in brand identities, but I don’t like to call myself an expert. (because I am not!)

Your tools of work:
Adobe Illustrator – Adobe Photoshop – Wacom Bamboo Pen Graphic Tablet – Pencil and Paper

Who or what is your biggest inspiration for graphic design?
My mother is an artist (a painter) and I think I get the visual stuff from her. I love modern art and I’m especially interested in cubic – abstract paintings.

Finally, what advice would you give to other designers?
If you are interested in design in any way, start working on it in young ages.

Want to share anything else?
Thank you for reading!

What do you think about 92pixels.com?
This interview was the first time I heard about 92pixels.com, but I should say that I really liked it. It’s great to see interviews of designers all around the world, and I’m proud to be a part of it!
